Happy New Year! (Well, it’s maybe a few days early, but I wanted to make sure that you saw this delicious cocktail in time for planning your New Year’s Celebrations.) This year we are definitely staying home and having the most low-key New Year, but I couldn’t let it pass without planning on enjoying (a few probably) The Midnight Kiss cocktail.
This no-stress cocktail is reminiscent of a classic champagne cocktail made in the Old Fashioned family of champagne, sugar, and flavorings. (Here are a few delicious Old Fashioned cocktails here and here). The cocktail is made using delicious blood orange and pomegranate liqueurs as our flavoring along with a few drops of Burlesque bitters on a sugar cube. For fun, it’s garnished with pomegranate arils and sugared rosemary. Simple and perfect for a celebration at home.

The Midnight Kiss
Place the sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute and add the bitters (do this at least 10 minutes prior to serving). Next, add the pomegranate liqueur and the blood orange liqueur. Top with champagne or sparkling wine. Garnish with pomegranate arils and a sprig of sugared rosemary.
Add 1 cup of the sugar and water to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Allow the mixture to boil for 2-3 minutes until the mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat and add the rosemary. Allow the rosemary to sit in the simple syrup for approximately 3 hours.
Remove the rosemary and place on a wire rack to dry for an hour. Sprinkle the rosemary with the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
