I love, love, love my book club. As a matter of fact, I have been a member of my book club for more than 10 years now. We do a lot of reading… and quite a bit wine tasting (all educational, of course). Every month we choose a different restaurant and a different book. This month the restaurant we chose was Fat Calf Boucherie inside of Red River Brewing Company. The location and food were great. They had delicious Cuban sandwiches, Pork Belly Sliders, and burgers as well as fantastic Arancini, Cauliflower Bites, and Crispy Brussel Sprouts. We all ate way too much!
Eleanor Oliphant is completely stuck in her life-avoiding social interactions, eating the same foods over and over, and drinking lots and lots of vodka. She is completely fine, other than she has no life. All of that changes when she meets Raymond, an IT guy at her work and they are thrown into a heroic situation with a random elderly man. Eleanor starts taking chances, changing her appearance, and developing friendships. She is still plagued by her horrific past but is soon opening her heart to all around her.
I really loved this book and cannot recommend it enough. The struggles that Eleanor goes through resonate with all of us. Her problems are probably a little more than most people face, but the way that she tackles and overcomes them is what makes her stronger.
