The Showgirl was one of the cocktails that I made for our Girl’s Night Out Cocktail Class that I first shared last week. This cocktail is part of the daiquiri family. A daiquiri is a type of cocktail referred to as a sour. A sour is a simple drink and it is basically a combination of spirit, citrus, and sweetener.
The proportions of the daiquiri’s three ingredients are important in how they are combined to create the finished cocktail. However, the most critical components are the freshness of the citrus, the choice of the spirit, whether or not the cocktail is shaken or stirred, and the choice of glass. Examples of cocktails that fall into the daiquiri family are mojitos, Moscow Mules, and my personal favorite, The French 75.

We chose to use Yellowfin Vodka for all of the cocktails during our cocktail class. Yellowfin Vodka is made from locally sourced cane sugar. It’s also distilled, fermented, and bottled in Louisiana. The sweetness of the Yellowfin vodka was a perfect complement to the sweet-tart flavors of the pineapple and lime juice.

This cocktail was definitely one of the favorites of the class. It’s light, refreshing, and has just the right amount of

Several members of the class questioned the cracked black pepper garnish until they tasted it. Black pepper or tiny dried berries, fruit of the black pepper vine, definitely lends some serious punch to this cocktails (and many others). I like to think of black pepper as an aromatic floating garnish.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the vodka, pineapple juice, lime juice, and St. Germain liqueur. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lime wedge, pieces of pineapple, and cracked black pepper.
