A few days ago, I had the great fortune of joining a few of my girlfriends for a Girl Scout Cookie Wine Tasting at a local Wine and Olive Bar-We Olive. It was one of the most imaginative and fun wine tastings that I have ever been to.
Next, we enjoyed the Savannah Smiles, a powdered sugar dusted lemon cookie. They paired the cookie with 2016 Pacificana Chardonnay, also a California wine.
My favorite cookie was next, The Do-si-do, a peanut creme-filled cookie. It was paired with
Heart Gates Vineyard Blanc Du Bois, Semi Sweet.
This wine is actually made in my hometown of Shreveport, LA. It is a light and easy to drink sweet wine with flavors of peach pie, ripe stone fruit, and pineapple.
Next, we paired 2016 Angels & Cowboys Rose’ with the Samoa cookie. This chocolate coconut cookie paired well with the Sonoma wine with flavors of grapefruit, white peach, and spicy floral notes with vibrant acidity.
The hardest cookie to pair was definitely the Thin Mint. This chocolate mint cookie was paired with 2016 Patton Valley “PTG”, a Willamette Valley, Oregon wine. This wine has flavors of cherry jolly rancher and strawberry. It can be served chilled.
The S’mores cookie was paired with the 2016 Rabble Tempranillo. This Paso Robles wine has aromatics of ripe plum, dried cherry, and fig and flavors of dark red berries, sweet tobacco, and oats.
If you ever get a chance to attend a Girl Scout Cookie wine tasting you should definitely go for it. It was a great experience and very different from a traditional tasting.
Hope this gives you a few ideas on pairing your favorite cookie with your favorite wine.
